Product Photography is a form of commercial photography where the goal is to present a product in a photographic presentation. When trying to achieve this you would need a lot of tool s such as proper lighting, a background, sharp camera focus, good depth of field, good camera angles and very careful editing. This type of photography is a style of photography I fell in love with while doing portrait photography and learning about it. Like product photography, portrait photography uses a lot of the tools that I mentioned to create a good image and it is through these similarities is what made me love both of them.

A lot of people think that product photography is as simple as pointing and shooting but I lot goes in on the planning to get the execution. Even the most basic products need thee correct equipment, good lighting and a space to create a great image so that consumers look at the product and want to purchase it. Natural light can also work well on product depending on what it is or what the brand is looking for in a product shoot. I would rather work with artificial light though only because I can manipulate it a lot more than I can with natural light. Artificial allows you to use different colour gels, diffusion of light and others etc.

Overall, the best type of photography for your product is a function of the product’s type, its usage and where the product is being marketed. Today, with the advent of digital photography, we have a number of new and exciting means of photographing products that really help customers make informed product decisions. Although Product photography can be very frustrating it can be lots of fun when you get the hang of it.
